Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge lights up the night in homage to Faster Britain
The iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge illuminates the Bristol skyline every evening with its signature white lights. With the crippling impact of the pandemic on tourism and visitor numbers, the team at the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust Visitor Centre came up with the idea of inviting the local community to choose an alternative colour to light up the bridge for a one-off special event.
The Light the Night campaign as it became known, was part of the national #SupportOurMuseums initiative, run by the Museums Association. It raised a total of £13,390 for the trust, donated by local people and businesses who overwhelmingly voted to illuminate the famous bridge in blue. The ITS and Faster Britain logos were also projected creating a spectacle for the lucky drivers travelling over the bridge.
Select Electrics, a Faster Britain key strategic partner in the build and delivery of full fibre across Bristol and the South West, made a substantial donation to the cause and were delighted to be responsible for pushing the button at the big switch on event last Friday (22nd October) which was livestreamed across Twitter.
“We were delighted to light up the Clifton Suspension Bridge in the colours of Faster Britain, ITS Technology Group’s all new Gigabit capable full fibre network that is giving businesses access to lightning fast connectivity and broadband. As a key strategic partner delivering this network, Select Electrics is Bristol born and bred; so it is with immense pride that we got to push the button to ‘Light the Night’.
“It feels particularly poignant given the pandemic. It represents the resilience of the city, and the region, and also the amazing efforts of the Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitors’ Centre’s team that continue to keep such an important part of our history alive. The bridge is famous for being a turning point in engineering, and connecting communities. Faster Britain is a modern day feat of design and engineering, transforming the digital capabilities of businesses across the region, connecting them to the world.”
